US/TR staff celebrates Spring, and our departing employees

Friday, May 8th around 4:30pm saw sunny skies turn to cloudy. Was it because the University Store and Text Rental staff was having an unholy gathering with food and water balloons? Likely not.

We had a good group gathered this year for our end of the year picnic, and celebration of our departing employees. Leaving us to graduation, internships or transfers are Lisa Butz, Jeff Dahl, Meghan DeLeeuw, Shawna Espich, Liz Howard, Aaron LaPacz, Aaron Leist, Rachel Reinke, and Jon Whitcomb. We are sad to see them all leaving us, but happy for them that their futures are ahead of them.

The Spring party was also the culmination of the US/TR Penny Wars. We raised a total of $183.50 for the Portage County Humane Society (charity of the Aaron, Jolene, Erin, Stephanie team). The team that got pelted with water balloons was the Jeff, LaRon, Nichole team. Let's just say, the structured firing line of water balloons against victims quickly turned to all out war with LaRon and Jeff catching and throwing balloons back at their would be attackers. And Jon chasing Nichole through the park with a balloon only to fall on his rump.

All in all, fun for all.

Also, join us May 11 - 15 for book buyback. This is where purchase books from you. If your book is on our buyback list we will give you up to 50% of the current new book price in cash!

Our buyback list is created from all of the book orders we received from faculty by our order deadlines. Unfortunately if your instructor hasn't turned in a book order we can't give your the highest dollar value for your book. However there is a used book wholesaler performing the buy for the University Store, and if the book is not on our list, they will offer you their best wholesale price for the book (between 0-33% of current new book price).

Pictures for NACS

The National Association of College Stores (NACS) requested pictures for the new "General Merchandise" module that they are in the process of re-writing. Ever obliging I started taking pictures. Here are three of my faves. The first two, just because I think they look cool, the last one - well, look at it, it's funny.

I was looking for a picture of "hand-selling" or "customer service in action" and Derek and Anna offered themselves up to be the sacrificial lambs, figuratively. I wanted to submit this picture, because I think it looks the least staged, but Anna didn't like it, so I didn't. Instead, I posted it here. I think it's a fabulous picture.

Life in the University Store

Greetings from the University Store. Recently I was taking pictures for submission to a National Association of College Stores (NACS) publication, and caught computer dude Derek with some lemon heads. He's either whispering sweet nothings, or deciding how many to purchase. Why choose lemon heads when there are so many varieties of Lindt Chocolates?
